Ergobaby's journey began two decades ago, inspired by a mother’s desire to keep her baby close while seeking comfort, balance, and ease. Living on Maui, this mother, Karin Frost, was dissatisfied with the baby carriers available at the time and sought a better solution. Her inspiration came from indigenous babywearing practices and the philosophy of The Continuum Concept, which emphasizes providing babies with the care they need from birth for optimal wellness throughout their lives.

With a background in design, Karin set out to create a carrier that not only served her needs but also benefited her baby. Drawing from traditional mei tai carriers, she designed the first Ergobaby Baby Carrier — a soft-structured carrier that would go on to redefine how babies are carried. This simple yet innovative design would become the Gold Standard in babywearing.
